Mason & Hamlin is one of the world’s most famous, renowned piano manufacturers. The company was established in Boston in 1854, and the name is still being produced today. Mason & Hamlin is considered one of the finest pianos ever made, and they tend to be extremely expensive when you can find one. This piano was built in 1894, and is one of Mason & Hamlin’s rare “screwstringer” grand pianos. The tuning board of the piano is made differently than the average grand piano, a design that Mason & Hamlin patented to keep pianos in tune longer. Pianos built with the screwstringer design actually do seem to stay in tune much longer than most traditional pianos. Although the design was perfected and worked beautifully, it never caught on to the piano industry at large, and was discontinued after a couple of decades of production. This piano is in unrestored condition, but will be pristine after restoration. An original matching bench is included. This piano can be equipped with computerized player mechanisms if desired.
